POWWOW MAGAZINE COVER ARTBACK IN THE DAY when G. BALLARD held the pow-wow creative contracts to produce the pow-wow poster and magazine cover, Ballard delivered finished posters for release, and film and match print for the magazine cover (pictured above). TRIBAL MODELSAlexis Tucker, 9, and Raymond "Swift Hawk" Sandoval Jr., 8, both Indian children are Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation band members, participated in Sycuan's 12th Annual Powwow, September 10, 2001. Field note: Young Raymond, the head boy dancer, was dodging my camera all three days. In this photograph, Ray was stopped in the pow-wow arena during the Grand Entry and was stuck for the photo because everyone was watching. I think he was kind of mad at me for dogging him, but I persevered and got one of my best Sycuan pictures ever of the young California indigenous boy. The photographer took this photograph with medium-format color negative film. Of course the background needed dropped out for this commercial-quality event candid. The photographer shot the background Sycuan Color Guard in a previous Sycuan Powwow. Photos, Photoshop Artist, Creative Graphic Design by G. Ballard, San Diego MAGAZINE MONTAGE LAYOUT: I produced a fun montage of the powwow that the casino ran full page in their powwow magazine production -- this is how they generally looked -- I didn't spend a lot of time making commercial-grade artwork -- but just enough to make a good record of the tribal event for the band members:
