BOOK COVERS LAYOUT

SAN DIEGO CA BOOK DESIGN

These creative layouts were produced entirely in Photoshop for websites navigational art graphics, but the creative style look great as a book cover for digital desktop publishing.

The San Diego graphic designer, Gary Ballard, designed several of these beautiful creative covers for his website KUMEYAAY.INFO (click on the book thumbnails above and below to see the working designs with working rollovers):

SETH MALLIOS, Ph.D., Professor and Chair of Anthropology, San Diego State University (SDSU) hired Gary Ballard to do the design and create the graphic layout for six of his recent books (note: Dr. Mallios supplied Gary Ballard with all the photos and text):

2007 Whaley House Technical Report
2008 Whaley House Technical Report
2007 Nate Harrison Site Technical Report
2008 Nate Harrison Site Technical Report
2009 Whaley House Technical Report
2011 Whaley House Technical Report
Published 2009-2012: Reprographic Services, A Division of Business Services, San Diego State University

These academic books were trimmed to 8.5x11 inches, and were between 100-275 pages per book — Gary Ballard used Photoshop® to optimize the photos, InDesign® to lay out the book, Illustrator® to work on the logos, Microsoft® Word® and Excel® for the text and giant spreadsheets, and finally Acrobat® to export the production PDFs for the off-set printer at SDSU.

The Whaley House is an historical landmark in Old Town San Diego; the Nate Harrison cabin site is located on Palomar Mountain in San Diego County.
